the power of rain

patiently waiting

patiently waiting for the first drops

Monday (26th), the mini-drought in Brisbane did break, 53mm of delicious rain fell here and we’ve been able to throw away the chlorophyll-tinted glasses we had all taken to wearing.

Great news…..but of course rain never falls in an egalitarian fashion with places like Rockhampton still desperate for a good fall – can’t be too far away Rolley!

  1. Wow, I don’t think I have seen a tree that stressed ever.

Glad you got some rain and the plants have sighed in relief.

    Kind Regards

Great photos – love the frog and the before and after shots – they tell the story of the power of rain.

    Cheers,

Great photos James. I love a good before and after shot, especially when it comes to rain. That tree must have sung with joy!

Still no end to our drought down here in Victoria. The weather over the last few days have been very humid, in the 30’s and then a thunderstorm and about 5mm of rain. It is like living in Darwin without the rainfall. Might be another hellish hot summer again, but won’t they all be from now on, unless we all do something about it!

Gav – I feel for you down there – seems like you are stuck in a long hot dry rut. While we haven’t had a lot of rain yet, at least we are running into the wetter part of the year up here and morale is picking up.
It will be interesting to see what comes out of Copenhagen – maybe the pollies will surprise us (wishful thinking).

Thanks for your comment Belinda. The tree is a young Brush Box – they are funny trees, never seem to die but look terrible when we get a sustained dry spell. Anyway they are much happier now.

Aw nice little frog, we did end up getting a little bit of rain last month, I think we’re still heading for the driest year in recorded history though. But, the good news is, that I’ve seen green tree frogs (okay only 2) for the first time in YEARS.. years!! I was really really pleased.. its a nice thing to see frogs around.

Fingers crossed for a good wet season (we can always hope) ; )
